What is Google PageRank?

Google PageRank is a web link analysis algorithm named after Larry Page. It is now used by the Google search engine to assign a numerical weighting to a web page with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the page.

Google PageRank has the scale between 0 and 10. If your site has the PageRank 0, 1, or 2, you need to get new links to the site to boost PageRank. If your site has the PageRank 3, you should concentrate on your page optimization. PageRank 4 and 5 are seen as fairly relevant sites and unless you are in a really competitive market, it is probably sufficient to rank well if the on-page optimization is in place. PageRank 6 or higher is sufficient for almost any area of the market. If your site has PR6 or above, you are in the better position to get lots of web traffic.

Many web surfers know that the PageRank feature on the Google toolbar showing how important Google considers the page to be. After you install the Google toolbar with the PageRank activiated, you can see the rank of every page you visit. Many website promotion experts consider the PageRank to be the most important factor in links exchange.

How Google calculate the PageRank?

Google calculates the PageRank of your website by counting each incoming link to your site as a vote. For example, if www.edusoftmax.com has an outgoing link to website.edusoftmax.com, Google considers the link as a vote for website.edusoftmax.com. But Google does not rely on the pure count of the links coming to the site in order to calculate the PageRank. The search engine robots analyze the page linking to your site as well. The more relevant the linking page is to the keywords entered, the higher the importance that Google gives to your page. So, keep this in mind when you are thinking about getting one way links to your site, or use the method of reciprocal links.

When analyzing the linking page, Google takes into account the on-focus and off-focus factors. If you have a web design website, an on-focus link would be a link from another web design website. On-focus page will be ranked higher even if there are a few. In other words, the quantity and quality of your back links are the major part of the Google algorithm to calculate the PageRank.

Is high PageRank always at top positions in search results?

Most of time, but not always because Google considers many other factors when ranking your website. Usually Google considers the following factors when ranking a web page:

1. Number and quality of the back links from other websites.
2. Anchor text of the links.
3. Historical factors.

For back links from other websites, Google checks if it is the relevance to your site and the page ranking of their size.

The anchor text is the visual representation of the link. The key is to have top keywords related to your site in the anchor text. For example, if you want to get a back link to the site www.edusoftmax.com, you should use the anchor text like "computer repair tips", which are related to the content of our website. You should know that the keywords that the link contains are of the greatest value in Google's algorithm.

The following are historical factors Google takes into account:

1. When the link is discovered
2. Whether the link changes with time
3. How quickly the page gets links from other websites

You should note that gaining links from other sites too quickly can result in your page to be de-indexed by Google.
